  1. With a health system including 10 hospitals on eight campuses spanning 6,200 square miles in the Hudson Valley, the Westchester Medical Center (WMC) Health Network has wide-ranging and diverse employment needs. Over 7,000 healthcare professionals provide care for 120,000 patients each year through its regional medical system serving the Hudson Valley and beyond.

“Our network is growing and as we grow, we are always looking to improve the services we provide,” says Jordy Rabinowitz, senior vice president, human resources, Westchester Medical Center Health Network. “To do so, we want to find the right people. And there’s a lot of competition in this area for talent.”

That’s why WMC recruiters were excited to hear about Jobs Waiting, a federally-funded regional partnership that aims to help employers fill skilled positions in healthcare. The organization has committed to hiring at least five Jobs Waiting graduates for clinical and non-clinical positions across the Hudson Valley. Those positions include a variety of clinical and non-clinical jobs such as medical billing and coding specialists, nurses, nursing assistants, physician assistants and customer service positions.

Access and Incentives

Businesses who sign up with Jobs Waiting receive specialized services to help employers offset the cost of hiring new people. Job development specialists help recruiters by job matching graduates who are focused, committed and work-ready to specific employment opportunities. What’s more, employers also have access to financial incentives, such as paid “work tryouts,” which are opportunities to try out potential employees in a risk-free environment, and subsidies for onboarding new employees through on-the-job training (OJT).

From what they have seen of the Jobs Waiting program and its graduates, the human resources team at WMC would be pleased to interview and identify candidates from the program, according to Rabinowitz.

“We’re always looking for good people, and the incentives are a bonus. At WMC, we’re also interested in supporting the communities in which we provide care; we strongly support the program’s aim in getting talented people back to work.”
